About Joe Thambu Shuseki Shihan
Joe Thambu Shihan is an 8th Dan Yoshinkan Aikido master, Shihan (master instructor), and founder/chief instructor (Shuseki Shihan) of Aikido Shudokan International, based in Melbourne, Australia. He is of Malaysian Tamil heritage and has over 50 years of continuous practice as of 2026.
He has trained under or alongside many leading figures and continues to emphasise structure, clarity, ethics, and personal development. In 2023 he published "Budo: The Art of Being" (with co-author Marvin Oka), a conversational exploration of Budo philosophy drawn from his decades of experience, focusing on embodying martial arts principles for character development beyond the mat.
